Staff Devices – 2025-26

Beginning September 2, 2025, the following changes will be implemented pertaining to staff device allocation.

  • TTOCs will sign out a device upon arriving at the school and return the device at the end of the day’s assignment. Laptop assignment discretion for PVPs is outlined below.
  • Continuing and temporary contract teachers (0.2 FTE or more) are eligible for an assigned device. A device should be requested by emailing helpdesk@sd61.bc.ca up to one week ahead of the contract start date. Laptops can be picked up from the Tolmie Board Office in the ITL Department or delivered to your school. Please provide drop-off details (location and schedule availability) in the ticket.
  • Continuing and temporary contract teachers (less than 0.2 FTE) will sign out a loaner laptop upon arrival at the school and return the device each day.
  • Additional staff device allocation – see table below for role-specific device allocation.

Please note the following procedures to support inventory management and cost savings:

  • Administrators have discretion as to whether a loaned laptop should be returned at the end of the school day for teachers who may be assigned consecutive TTOC days at the school. Further, discretion is provided for additional staff groups (ex: EAs, etc.) or students if devices are available during the school day. If students are using the laptops, a teacher should sign out the device on their behalf. Supervision is highly encouraged.
  • A device management application is available to all schools to facilitate the day-to-day management of loaned laptops. School PVP teams have discretion to manage the devices in a way that works for their school environment.
  • Schools will be responsible for replacing lost loaned laptops, within reason and will take the school’s laptop management strategy into consideration. Inventory will be counted on a bi-annual basis and communicated to administration teams.
  • Laptops for teachers with a contract of 0.2 FTE or greater can be requested up to one week in advance of an assignment beginning if the assignment is confirmed.
  • Laptops for teachers on expiring contracts must be returned within one week of the contract expiration.
  • Teachers with a contract of 0.2 FTE or greater going on leave for more than 40 workdays must return their laptop to the school or Board office (or school office) within one week of the start of the leave. Teachers on leave for more than 40 days are not eligible to retain their laptop. If returned to the school office, a ticket should be submitted so that the device can be logged and redistributed by the ITL Department.
  • Laptops assigned to teachers on contracts of 0.2 FTE or greater are not to be reassigned to incoming teachers or shared with TTOCs/other teachers. Laptops are assigned specifically to a teacher and must be managed as such.
